The Pearl of Africa

Where Forest Meets Savannah.

Uganda packs an extraordinary range into a country the size of Great Britain. Ancient rainforest gives way to open savannah, the Nile carves through dramatic escarpments, and glaciated peaks rise along the Congolese border. It is one of the few places on earth where you can track mountain gorillas in cloud forest one morning and watch elephants cross the plains a day later.

Why Uganda

Half the World's Mountain Gorillas.

Roughly half of all remaining mountain gorillas live in Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Permits are limited and tightly controlled, which keeps the experience quiet, close and genuinely wild — an hour with a habituated family, on foot, in forest that has stood for 25,000 years.

What Draws People Here

Five Reasons To Come.

/01

Mountain Gorillas

Bwindi and Mgahinga hold around half the world's remaining population, tracked on foot in small groups.

/02

Chimpanzees

Kibale Forest has the highest concentration of primates in East Africa, with thirteen species in one park.

/03

Classic Big Game

Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls and Kidepo deliver lion, elephant, buffalo and vast open country.

/04

Birdlife

Over 1,000 recorded species, including the prehistoric-looking shoebill in the Mabamba wetlands.

/05

Landscape

Glaciers on the Rwenzori, crater lakes in the western rift, and the Nile at its most dramatic.

Why Amka

An Experience, Not Just an Itinerary.

/01

Uganda-Born Guides

Our guides grew up in the regions they lead you through. That local knowledge is the difference between seeing a place and understanding it.

/02

Tailor-Made, Never Off-The-Shelf

We start from a conversation, not a catalogue. Routes, pace and lodges are shaped around how you actually want to travel.

/03

Small Groups, Private Vehicles

You travel as your own party in a dedicated 4x4 with a pop-up roof. No shared departures, no fixed schedule.

/04

Direct Local Relationships

We work directly with lodges, rangers and community projects, so more of what you spend stays where you travel.

Responsible Travel

Travel That Leaves Something Behind.

Gorilla permits fund the rangers and the forest. Community-run lodges fund schools and clinics. We choose partners who make that link real rather than decorative, and we are happy to show you exactly where your money goes.
