Wake Up to Africa. Travel Deeper.
Lake Bunyonyi sits deep among terraced hills in Uganda’s far southwest, its water dotted with some twenty-nine small islands. It is one of the few lakes in the country free of bilharzia and crocodiles, making it safe for swimming as well as paddling.
After the exertion of gorilla trekking in nearby Bwindi or Mgahinga, Bunyonyi offers a slower register: dugout canoes, island walks and terraced hillsides that fold down to the shoreline. It is less a destination in its own right than the wind-down every trekking itinerary needs.
