Amka Safaris

A Brief Crossing Into Gorilla Country.

Four days is enough time to step out of Kigali, cross into Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and sit with a mountain gorilla family for an hour. This itinerary keeps the logistics simple and the pace unhurried, built around a single trek rather than a long circuit.

You will cross the Cyanika border by road, settle into the forest edge for two nights, and return to Kigali with time to spare before your onward flight. It suits travellers with limited days who want the gorillas without the wider Uganda loop.

How It Unfolds.

/01

Kigali to Bwindi

A morning border crossing at Cyanika brings you from Kigali into south-western Uganda. The drive climbs steadily through terraced hillsides before dropping into the forest edge at Bwindi, where the afternoon is left free to settle in and rest ahead of tomorrow’s trek.

/02

Gorilla Trekking, Bwindi

An early briefing at the park office is followed by a guided trek into the forest, timed to the movements of a habituated gorilla family. Once located, you spend an hour observing them at close range before the return walk, its length shaped entirely by the terrain that day.

/03

Batwa Walk and Return to Kigali

A shorter morning activity, a walk with Batwa guides through the forest fringe, precedes the drive back across the border. The afternoon is spent retracing the route to Kigali, arriving in time for dinner in the city.

/04

Departure

A free morning in Kigali before transfer to the airport for onward travel. Depending on flight timing, there may be time for a short city tour or a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial.
